AI voice generator

An AI voice generator that gets Indian languages right

Type a script, pick a voice and a language, and get a natural-sounding WAV back. Hindi, Hinglish and ten more Indian languages run on a model trained on Indian speech — not an English engine asked to read Devanagari.

Hear it before you sign up

These three files were generated with Mayantar from typed text. Nothing was edited afterwards. Hinglish is included deliberately, because it is the case most tools get wrong.

  • English

    Generated from typed English text.

  • Hindi

    Generated from Devanagari text.

  • Hinglish

    Generated from Roman-script code-mixed text.

What you can do with it

  • Generate from a preset voice — available on every plan including free, no recording required.
  • Generate in your own cloned voice from a single short reference recording, on paid plans.
  • Switch language without switching tool — the same voice can read 34 languages.
  • Control speaking tempo when a script needs to be slower for a tutorial or faster for a Short.
  • Crop, download and share the result as WAV, straight from the player.

Why Indian-language output is the hard part

Every AI voice generator sounds decent in English now. The differences show up somewhere else, and if you publish in an Indian language they show up immediately.

Code-mixing.Real Indian scripts are not monolingual. “Aaj ka episode thoda alag hai” contains three languages’ worth of orthography. A model trained only on native-script audio does not mispronounce Latin-script words in that sentence — it drops them, silently, and you find out on playback. Mayantar normalises those spans before generation, and treats Hinglish as its own language option rather than a Hindi setting.

Numbers and dates.“15 मार्च” and “9:30” have to be spoken as an Indian speaker says them, which is not how an English number normaliser expands them.

Sentence boundaries. Long scripts have to be split before generation. Split on the wrong character and Devanagari narration breaks mid-clause — so the danda (।) is treated as a full stop, not as an unknown symbol.

Plans and limits

Free is a real allowance rather than a watermarked teaser you can only use once: 3 minutes and 3,000 characters a month.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a free AI voice generator I can use without a card?

Yes. Mayantar's free tier gives you 3 minutes and 3,000 characters a month with preset voices and watermarked output, and does not ask for payment details to start.

What makes an AI voice sound realistic?

Three things, in order of impact: prosody (where the stress and pauses fall), pronunciation of names and loanwords, and timbre. Most tools sound artificial because of the first two, not the third — which is why a model trained on the language you are generating beats a better-sounding model that was not.

Can I use AI-generated voices commercially?

Paid plans include commercial use of audio you generate from voices you are entitled to use. Free-tier output is watermarked and intended for evaluation. The specifics are in the terms.

What file format do I get?

WAV. You can play it in the browser, crop a selection, download it, and share it.

How fast is generation?

Generation is queued and runs asynchronously — you submit a script and the result arrives when it is done, rather than the browser holding a connection open. Paid tiers above Starter get reserved queue capacity, so they wait less at busy times.
