The most important thing to know about Spanish here is that the model does not pick a dialect for you. Peninsular distinción, Rioplatense sheísmo, Mexican or Colombian neutral — whichever is in your reference clip is what comes out. There is no accent dropdown, because the reference clip is the accent control.
That is usually what people want and occasionally a surprise. If you need neutral Latin American Spanish for a course or an ad, record the reference in neutral Latin American Spanish.
What is different about generating Spanish
- Reference recordings for this language are capped at 12 seconds, the same limit used throughout Mayantar.
- Inverted opening punctuation (¿ and ¡) is read as the start of a question or exclamation, so writing it — as correct Spanish does anyway — measurably improves intonation. Text that omits it gets flatter delivery.
- Accented vowels and ñ must be typed properly. Writing "ano" for "año" or "esta" for "está" changes the word, and the model will pronounce exactly what you wrote.
- Cloning is cross-lingual: a voice cloned from a clip in one language can generate in another on this path. It works, but it is not free — accent from the reference language carries over. Record in the language you intend to publish in unless a foreign accent is the point.
Recording a Spanish reference clip
Mayantar ships written prompts for English and the Indian languages; for Spanish the recorder offers the English prompts as a starting point, and you are better off reading Spanish of your own. Anything works as long as it is you talking normally — introduce yourself, describe what you are working on, read a paragraph of your own script.
Aim to fill most of the 12-second limit, keep it in one take, and include a question if you can: rising intonation is the thing a clone most often lacks when the reference was a flat, careful read.
The checks your clip has to pass — and the specific reasons clips get rejected — are in our guide to recording a reference clip.
Spanish voice generation: common questions
Can I choose between Spanish accents?
Not from a menu — you choose by what you record. The clone inherits the accent, speaking rate and register of the reference clip, so a Madrid reference produces Peninsular Spanish and a Bogotá reference produces Colombian Spanish.
Is the Mayantar interface available in Spanish?
The interface and the generation language are separate settings. Mayantar's interface ships in eleven languages, and the audio it generates can be in any of thirty-four — so you can run the app in English and generate Spanish, or the other way round where both are offered.
